Augustus Summerfield Merrimon Papers, . 1850-1868

Augustus Summerfield Merrimon was a United States Senator, 1874-1879, and chief justice, 1889-1892, of North Carolina. The collection includes diaries, 1850-1851 and 1853, while Merrimon was a student as the Asheville Male Academy and while studying law at Asheville, N.C., including comments on fellow law student Zebulon Baird Vance; record of judgements, 1859-1863, in cases in which Merrimon was attorney; and docket of cases, 1868, he argued before the North Carolina Supreme Court.
